Evra rejects exit talk

Debate has broken out in the Football Transfer Tavern over the future of Manchester United left back Patrice Evra who has today dismissed suggestions that he has even thought about leaving the Old Trafford club for Paris Saint Germain.

The 31-year-old left back has been heavily linked with a move to the French capital and recent French reports suggested that the Qatar-backed club had identified Evra as their principal transfer target for the upcoming transfer window.

However, Evra told the Daily Mail that he is happy at United and has not thought about leaving, even making a joke that he would have to kill Sir Alex Ferguson before he left the club which made a few punters chuckle into their pints.

Evra quipped: “’You’d have to kill Ferguson before I could come to Paris. There is nothing done and I’m happy in Manchester.”

Nevertheless, Evra’s contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer of 2014 and he’ll know that the club rarely offer contracts longer than a year to any player over the age of 30. The prospect of finishing his career in his home city with a mammoth wage package will surely still entice the defender.

He even admitted that there was an attraction about playing in Paris, saying: “Paris is the capital club and I’ve never hidden my love for Paris, even if Monaco remain my club. It always hurts my heart to see the club not win the championship or qualify for the Champions League. It is always a pleasure to be coveted, especially since I’m Parisian.”

Evra has won four Barclays Premier League titles and a Champions League since arriving at Old Trafford in 2006 but could his fruitful time at United be soon coming to an end?  Vote in our polls below.
