Arsenal fans look like they are set to receive a blast from the past here in the Football Transfer Tavern as after the claims from the Daily Mirror, talk turns to their former midfielder Mathieu Flamini who is being looked at by both Aston Villa and Southampton.
The player is looking for a move back to the Premier League this summer when his contract with Italian giants AC Milan ends and given that he is still only 29 it means there is plenty of time for another contract and club yet.
Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be a major fan of the player and has even made the effort to sound him out personally about a move to the club who now look like they are set to stay in the Premier League and are starting to build for next season.
It seems clear that Flamini’s career at the San Siro is over given that only a year ago he was forced to accept a pay cut in order to remain at the Italian club and now a new deal is certainly not on the table. The player may still claim to be an Arsenal fan but a move back to the Emirates Stadium is very unlikely.
