The Aston Villa fans who are gathered in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing news that the club have a shortlist of managerial targets.
The Telegraph is reporting that the Aston Villa board are set to meet this week and top of the agenda is to compile a list of managers that they feel can get the club back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
Expected to be at the top of that list are ex-Manchester United manager David Moyes and Nigel Pearson, who have been linked with the vacant position since the sacking of Remi Garde.
Other potential names that could appear are the likes of Steve Bruce and Sean Dyche, as the club look towards a more successful British manager with a knowledge to bring success back to the club.
Speaking about how crucial it is to get the right man, Villa caretaker manager Eric Black said: “I think it has to be right person whenever that is, whether it’s now or July 1. It’s important now that the people above take their time and get the right person in.
“It is extremely difficult to bounce back and a massive challenge. You come from a base of winning three games this season and if Aston Villa are in the Championship next season they’re going to have to win a minimum of 26 or 27 to get out, which is more than the last five years.
“You’ve also got that complete change of the expectation and the pressure and everything that goes with it.”
The Villa fans in The Tavern are leaning more in favour of Nigel Pearson being appointed the club’s new manager, especially as he has a proven track record of achieving a promotion from the Championship during his time in charge at Leicester City.
Meanwhile, the landlord here feels David Moyes would be a sensational coup for Villa, and feel his experience will help guide the Villans back to the Premier League next season!
