Ex-Premier League manager issues outrageous claim about Man Utd star

The punters in the Football Transfer Tavern aren’t so sure…

Harry Redknapp has built up quite the reputation in the Tavern for some of the ridiculous statements that he has come out with over the last few years – and this one might be one of his worst…

The ex-Tottenham boss has been speaking about Man Utd man Wayne Rooney in an article for the Evening Standard – and he has made a ridiculous claim about where the English veteran could play.

Discussing a potential United departure, Redknapp said: “He…could have a major impact on a Premier League club. He could tip the balance for a top-four team if United were to let him go”.

Bizarrely, he added: “I’d take Wayne at Arsenal or Chelsea”.

You heard that right!

Wayne Rooney, the man that has – according to the Man Utd fans by the bar – been the sole reason behind his side’s poor form this season – could apparently turn a Champions League contender into a Premier League contender.

Furthermore, he thinks that Rooney could get in both Chelsea and Arsenal’s first team!

At Chelsea, he would have to compete with the quartet of Hazard, Oscar, Willian and Diego Costa – so there’s no chance there.

Arsenal meanwhile have the talented quartet of Sanchez, Ozil, Walcott and Giroud; where would he fit in?!

Our landlord thinks it might be best if Harry sticks to punditry – rather than looking for a return to management…

Chelsea, Arsenal fans – thoughts?!
