Ex-Real chief upbeat on Bale chances

bale.jpgThe Daily Mail may have started a campaign to keep Gareth Bale in Blighty but here at the Football Transfer Tavern we think this is becoming increasingly futile and it seems that talkSPORT agree with us.

The Spurs player is rarely out of the headlines these days and given his hot vein of form and also the interest from Real Madrid in the Welshman, it comes as no surprise. Today the Bale update is that Real Madrid are planning a £70 million package for the winger and are more than sure they can land him.

The Spanish giants have claimed via former president Ramon Calderon that: “It’s true we have spent a lot of money in the last three or four years but I think we are in a position to pay the money they are going to ask for. There is always a limit but Real Madrid is in a very healthy situation, economically speaking, so it would be in the position to sign him.”

Calderon was speaking to talkSPORT and positively gushed about Bale, claiming a huge amount of clubs wished to sign the player. Now whilst this is not exactly breaking news it does cast a small shadow on the chase for the player and as we all know with transfers, anything can happen.

Whilst Andre Villas-Boas will be hoping to keep the player at White Hart Lane, Champions League qualification is a must and the Portuguese tactician knows that a victory over their bitter rivals Arsenal on Sunday would leave them in a great position to realise their ambitions.

Spurs fans. If you finish in the top four, has Bale reason to leave? Let us know your thoughts below.
