Aston Villa

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker to decide future on holiday after release

AdebayorOur resident Spurs fans here in the Transfer Tavern are delighted about this news about Adebayor – After a deadline day move to West Ham fell through, Tottenham Hotspur agreed to cancel Emmanuel Adebayor’s contract, leaving him currently clubless, reports the Daily Mail.

The striker has not made an appearance for the north London club since January and was not included in Pochettino’s Premier League squad list, so the departure comes as no surprise. He had been holding out for Tottenham to pay him around £5m for the rest of his contract but a deal between the two parties has now been agreed.

He has now jetted off to Paris where he says he will use the early season break to think about his future and the options that are open to him.

Villa fans here in the Transfer Tavern were delighted to hear that they could be back in for the striker having been interested over the summer. Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has already expressed a desire to bring him to the Midlands club in January.

Sherwood worked with Adebayor during his spell in charge of Tottenham Hotspur, and found a formula to get the best out of the Togo striker during that period – and is hoping he can do the same again at his new club.

Due to being registered as a Tottenham player at the end of the summer transfer window, the 31-year-old is unable to join another Premier League side until January when the window re opens.

Villa fans, would you be as happy as our fans here if you signed Adebayor? Tottenham fans, should he have been given a chance to prove himself this season? Let us know what you think below!
