Liverpool supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side breeze past West Ham 4-1 at the London Stadium on Saturday, a result which moved the Merseysiders up to fifth place in the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the struggling Hammers off the back of comfortable wins over Huddersfield Town and Maribor, and first half strikes from Mohamed Salah and Joel Matip set them on their way to another three points. Manuel Lanzini did got one back for the hosts though ten minutes into the second period to give them hope, but that was soon banished thanks to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first league goal of the campaign less than a minute later, before Salah made it four with quarter of an hour to go to complete the rout.
Thus, there have been many happy Reds fans in the Tavern this week after seeing their team move above Arsenal into fifth place in the Premier League table, and as such has set them up perfectly to return to league action after this fortnight’s international break.
In the meantime though, there is plenty for our resident Liverpudlians to get their teeth into, not least a recent report which suggests that Barcelona’s Lionel Messi believes that teammate and compatriot Javier Mascherano could make the move back to Anfield.
The 33-year-old left Liverpool back in 2010 to join the Spanish giants, and he has since become one of the best centre-backs in world football having played 331 games for the club, helping them to win four La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns.
But Messi reportedly reckons that Mascherano could return to Liverpool in the near future, which is news that has stimulated quite a response from Reds supporters on Twitter.
And it’s fair to say that they are split about potentially re-signing the Argentine…
Would I have a former #LFC DM who was never replaced, whose absence was part of our decline, who can still play DM *and* cover at CB, who has played at the Elite Level with a champions mentality + experience?
No Brainer really.#Mascherano

I’d give them €5m to do business 1 Jan! Exactly what we need, even if he’s half the player he used to be.
