The Aston Villa fans who are gathered around the pool table in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing comments made about the club’s future by their new owner.
The Guardian is reporting that new owner Dr Tony Xia is hoping that he can turn the club’s fortunes around and make them one of the top three clubs in world football.
The Chinese national gained control of the club earlier this week, and revealed his plans for what he wants to achieve during his tenure at the club.
It will be a breath of fresh air for Villa fans to hear the determined comments made by the new owner, after years of underachievement and eventual relegation from the Premier League under previous incumbent Randy Lerner.
Xia has urged Villa fans to forget the past troubles the club have been through and that they should look forward to a new era under his stewardship.
Speaking about his expectations, Xia said: “My ambition is to bring Villa to the top six in less than five years and I hope it can be [one of] the top three in the world – even the best well known in the world – in less than 10 years.”
The Villa fans in The Tavern are delighted with their new owner’s comments, and look forward to seeing the club progress under a man who seems to have the club’s best interests at heart.
