Southampton this week once again completed a sale worth huge sums of money to the club, with the club authorising the £75m deal to take Virgil Van Dijk to Liverpool from St Mary’s.
The Saints have become known as a bit of a selling club over the last few seasons having seen the likes of Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Luke Shaw all move on for big money in what has been a decade of sales for the south coast club.
Here at the Tavern, our landlord believes that Southampton do well to get such big sums for their players, but also concedes the club need to be spending some of that money in January if they are to maintain their Premier League status and keep challenging in the top half of the table.
One such player who’s caught his eye this season who he thinks could be a perfect long term replacement for Van Dijk is current Montpellier defender Nordi Mukiele, who has been turning in some impressive performances this season for the French club.
The 20-year-old is yet another top French talent to come off the never ending conveyor belt of players that are coming out of France the last few years.
Mukiele would be within the price range the Saints are looking for, and his talent is clear for all to see already. He’d be a perfect fit for Soutampton, and if they could finance a move in January and beat a host of top clubs to his signature, then they might just have their next big saleable asset on their hands too.
Saints fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
