Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned to hear that an experienced member of their back-line may seek an exit from the club in January, which could hurt their title chances.
The Telegraph quote Mathieu Debuchy as considering his future, following the loss of his first-team spot to impressive young defender Hector Bellerin.
Debuchy has featured in the last two Arsenal matches, both of which the Gunners could not win, but with Bellerin expected to return from injury after the international break the Spaniard will reclaim his first-team spot.
This leaves France international Debuchy in a concerning position, with his spot at the European Championships under threat, and the former Newcastle United man is quoted as considering his options.
“I am trying to stay strong. We are going to remain concentrated until December, after that I will see.”
Arsenal do have alternative back-up to Bellerin but it’s not as simply as it appears, with Calum Chambers’ long-term future seemingly in the centre of defence and the impressive Carl Jenkinson enjoying a second-successive loan stint across London with West Ham.
Arsenal fans, should Debuchy be allowed to leave in January? Let us know in the comments below!
