Experienced Arsenal man makes crucial decision on future

ArtetaArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are raising their glasses in approval to news concerning their long-serving captain.

The Daily Mirror states that Mikel Arteta, Arsenal captain since the summer of 2014, will hang up his boots this summer upon the expiration of his contract with the Gunners.

Arteta has been a solid servant to Arsenal since his arrival in 2011 and he’s been a crucial asset in a period of transition for the Gunners, boasting two FA Cup successes and two Community Shields to his name.

Now though, with it clear the best of his playing days are behind him, the Basque-born midfielder will bring an end to a career that has seen him star for Real Sociedad, Rangers and Everton.

The Spaniard, who was never capped by his international side, could be set for a coaching role with Arsenal as he’s still seen as an important figure behind the scenes and his wealth of experience could be extremely beneficial to young players coming through the ranks.

Our landlord believes this is the right decision from Arteta but he hopes he stays at Arsenal in a coaching capacity.
