Experienced Premier League man linked with Sunderland vacancy

Allardyce has done it with an unfancied side before Things cannot get much worse for the Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern at the moment and today’s news that a former Newcastle United manager might be taking over at their club has not gone down too well with our resident Black Cats Fans.

Reports coming out of the Sunderland Echo seem to have former Newcastle, West Ham and Bolton Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce on a shortlist to replace Dick Advocaat who left his post on Sunday.

Allardyce has been without a club since leaving West Ham at the end of last season after leading them to a twelfth placed finish.

Big Sam, who was once a contender for the job of England manager, spent an unsuccessful eight months in charge of Sunderland’s fierce rivals Newcastle and his appointment would be greeted with much disgruntlement among the Sunderland fans.

Along with Allardyce there are also a number of candidates for the job including Sean Dyche, Frank De Boer, Patrick Vieira and former Newcastle caretaker manager Nigel Pearson.
