Liverpool were able to retain their spot at the top of the Premier League table thanks to goals from Xherdan Shaqiri in their 3-1 win over Manchester United at Anfield yesterday.

And while the Switzerland international will continue to take most of the plaudits from the Reds' recent victory, fellow summer signing Fabinho is also deserving of praise for his performance.

The Breakdown

Fabinho starred at the base of Liverpool's midfield in the win that comes in a good period for the 25-year-old, and he has since taken the time to speak about how confident he is currently feeling after a slow start to life at Anfield.

"I don't know if I am a starter now," the Liverpool midfielder was quoted saying by ESPN. "I have played a lot in the last few games and I have to make the most of the opportunities.

"I am playing with confidence; I understand well with my teammates. As I always say it is a decision for the coach."

And his pass that set up Sadio Mane for Liverpool's first goal alone was enough to show spectators the extent of his good form.

Ultimately, that, on top of his overall performance on the day where he provided his side with so much steel in midfield, was hugely encouraging for Jurgen Klopp and supporters.

If the ex-AS Monaco man can maintain the current level he is playing at, then Liverpool will easily have one of the best defensive midfielders in the country at their disposal
