Fabregas could be set to stay at Chelsea

The Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern would love to see him stay at Stamford Bridge…

Cesc Fabregas has had a tough start to the season, after being dropped by new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

With the Italian set on a midfield pairing of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic, Fabregas seemingly does not fit into his plans – and that has, expectedly, led to reports linking the Spaniard with a move away.

The Football Transfer Tavern has been rife with rumours surrounding a potential exit, with AC Milan touted as a potential destination for the Spaniard.

However, that move now appears unlikely – with AC Milan boss Vincenzo Montella revealing that he has no interest in Fabregas.

Montella was recently questioned on potential midfield upgrades, and as per SportMediaSet, Fabregas seemingly does not fit the bill.

He said: “We could use a player with the characteristics of Montolivo, who can also play in a midfield two. The Spaniard [Cesc Fabregas]? [He does] not really have those characteristics”.

It appears that Montella was not watching Chelsea during the 2014/15 season – with the Spaniard firing the Blues to the Premier League title with goals and assists each week whilst playing in a midfield two…

This won’t bother the Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern. The Blues in-house have been desperate to see Fabregas be given a chance – and this might be the opening that they’ve been waiting for.

Our landlord isn’t too sure. He doesn’t think Conte rates the Spaniard – and an extended stay at Stamford Bridge could see Fabregas stay on the bench all season.
