Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are breathing a sigh of relief, after it was indicated that one of their favourite players would not be leaving after all.
Spanish outlet AS state David De Gea will likely be staying at Old Trafford beyond the summer, with Real Madrid deciding not to activate the Spanish goalkeeper’s release clause.
De Gea was the saga of last summer and it finished in dramatic circumstances, with a blunder from the Spanish side seeing a proposed move for the player fall through, which would have seen Keylor Navas join Manchester United in a swap deal.
Many expected Real Madrid to redeem themselves this summer with a swoop for the highly-rated stopper but it seems Zinedine Zidane’s side are no longer keen, as they won’t be activating De Gea’s £39m release clause.
Crucially, De Gea’s clause lasts until just the 15th of June and Los Blancos boss Zidane prefers current stopper Navas, whilst Florentino Perez is keen to sign the Manchester United star.
