The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted to have finally landed Jacob Murphy and hope his arrival kicks off a busier second stage of the summer window at St. James’ Park.
For most of the summer break so far, the Magpies have struggled to significantly add to their ranks, so the idea of seeing players depart the Tyneside giants have worried the resident Geordies propping up our bar. Still, one man who has constantly divided opinions amongst the Toon Army is Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Few would doubt the Serbian marksman has all the attributes to become a cult-hero in the North East, though has failed to wholly convince for the most part of his two years with the club. Largely operating as a second fiddle to Dwight Gayle, Rafa Benitez doesn’t seem to trust the former Anderlecht man.
So, reports emanating out of France have barely come as a surprise to our punters clad in black and white. According to Foot Mercato, he’s been offered to Ligue 1 giants Lyon, who recently sold Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal.
Indeed, the report claims Newcastle are looking for around €18m (roughly, £15.9m) for the 22-year-old, who joined the club back in the summer of 2015. For his part, the player is reportedly looking for an annual salary of €1.5m, roughly equating to £1.3m a year.
While he is a popular figure amongst our supporters, getting such a big fee for a player not nailed on in the first-team is certainly proving a tempting prospect for them.
