Fans divided: 53% of Man Utd supporters don’t want 24-year-old to start against Tottenham

It has been a good few days for Man Utd man Jesse Lingard, and he has earned a few more fans in the Transfer Tavern in the process. The Englishman bagged two for his club against Swansea City in the Carabao Cup, ending somewhat of a barren spell for the midfielder. He was the hero on the day as his side won 2-0, and his performance has raised a few questions in the Transfer Tavern.

Specifically, fans have been wondering whether he deserves to start against Tottenham this weekend after such a fine performance. They’re certainly divided in the pub, and it seems as though the Man Utd fans elsewhere have got the same dilemma. Our landlord recently polled supporters on whether Lingard should start this weekend, and it’s fair to say that there is a fair sense of division. 53% of fans are hopeful that he will not start, whilst 47% of fans are hoping that he will – meaning whatever the case, a sizeable chunk of supporters are going to be left disappointed.

In truth, it’s unlikely that Lingard will feature, with Mourinho having more high-profile players to choose from. That said, if he’s basing his selection on merit, the English winger surely cannot be discounted. If he can play half as well this weekend as he did against Swansea then Tottenham will seriously struggle to control him.
