It was a good weekend in the Premier League last week for Chelsea’s Frank Lampard who scored twice at home to Blackburn, Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega who netted two goals at Burnley, and Pepe Reina who kept a clean sheet for Liverpool at home to Manchester United. This weekend Wayne Rooney will be looking to get back among the goals and Petr Cech will be aiming to get another clean sheet, but which players will do well. Here are four fantasy football pick suggestions:
Wayne Rooney – Blackburn have been shipping goals for fun recently and Man Utd will fancy their chance to turn them over at Old Trafford. Rooney will be full of confidence having just been named on the shortlist for the FIFA World Player of the Year Award, and will be looking to add to the 6 goals he has already scored in the Premiership this season. Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce must be extremely concerned by his sides defending, having conceded 15 goals in their last 4 matches in all competitions, so plenty of chances should come Rooney’s way.
Ashley Young – The Villa midfielder is yet to hit top form this season but it can only be a matter of time before he does, and as always he has a good chance of an assist as Villa score a high proportion of their goals from set pieces, which Young takes. Dunne, Collins and Carew will all be looking to get on the end of Young’s deliveries at the weekend. Aston Villa travel to Goodison Park to face Everton who have been struggling in the league as of late and haven’t kept a clean sheet in 6 matches.
Ryan Shawcross – The Stoke City defender has been getting some rave reviews recently and some people have even begun to question Man Utd’s decision to let him go. The defender has been an ever present in the league for Stoke this season and he is sure to come straight back into the team after being rested in their Carling Cup defeat at Portsmouth. Stoke are notoriously hard to beat at home and welcome Wolves to The Britannia Stadium on Saturday, who have struggled to score goals all season.
Petr Cech – Chelsea have been very impressive as of late and manager Carlo Ancelotti seems to have a settled team at the moment. Cech is a world-class keeper and is always a good bet to keep a clean sheet. This weekend’s fixture is a repeat of the midweek cup tie, when Chelsea beat Bolton 4-0 at Stamford Bridge. Even though the encounter at the Reebok Stadium will be a much together affair, with John Terry leading the defence, Chelsea should prove difficult to break down.
