Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are bouncing off the walls as they prepare for the Champions League final this weekend and our punters are quietly confident.
The Reds have knocked out Porto, Manchester City and Roma on their way to final where they will meet Real Madrid. Should they come out on top, it will be the sixth time they have lifted the famous trophy. After securing a top-four finish in the Premier League, our punters know they will watching Champions League football at Anfield next season regardless of the result against Madrid.
With Klopp focused on the final, he cannot resolve the future of Emre Can, whose contract expires in the summer. The German has missed the end of the season due to injury but is set to join Juventus on a free transfer according to Calciomercato. Losing the former Bayern man would be a big loss for the club, but he isn’t irreplaceable.
The perfect replacement would be Leicester City midfielder – Wilfred Ndidi. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the Nigerian has made 33 appearances for the Foxes and would be the ideal man for Klopp’s system. The 21-year-old will allow Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to flourish in the engine room.
Compared to Can, Ndidi excels defensively. According to WhoScored, the former Genk midfielder has made significantly more tackles per game (4.2) than the German (2.6). Also, he has averaged more interceptions (1.5), clearances (2.9) and blocks (0.3) than the ex-Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.
Losing Can would be a real blow, especially for free, but signing Ndidi could prove to be a masterstroke for the Reds.
