The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern were celebrating just their third win of 2018 and Paul Heckingbottom’s reign at the club when they beat Barnsley 2-1 at Elland Road on Saturday. The decisive goal came courtesy of young Tom Pearce, who claimed after the game that just playing for Leeds is an honour. You can read more of the youngster’s comments on the Leeds website.

The Leeds fans have had little to shout about since the turn of the year as their early promotion hopes turned to dust in the new year. The Yorkshire club have won just 13 points out of an available 42 since the appointment of Heckingbottom and the fans will be feeling pretty pessimistic as they head into their ninth straight season in the Championship next year.
Things could get brighter for the Whites though. The club have a fantastic academy and some youth players that have gone on to be successful in Premier League football. Even now, ex-Leeds man Lewis Cook is one of Bournemouth’s shining lights as they canter towards another season in the Premier League. If Heckingbottom can keep the club producing youngsters who turn in displays like young Pearce did on Saturday, then it’s just a matter of time until Elland Road is reinstated a Premier League ground.

This is the mentality each and every single player needs! Playing for Leeds IS an honour and the young lads have been showing it game in and game out. Just a shame some of the players don’t share their passion

He’s 20, as well, just like me.
I don’t think he even can remember the glory days at Leeds, like our journies in the UEFA Cup. Now that’s saying something.

The senior players need to take a leaf out of his book… putting them all to shame

Great to hear but they all say that and all end up getting sold on, lets hope we see more of our own youngsters given a chance not foreign players
