Pizzagate could be reignited all over again as Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson are both looking to bring French youngster Mamadou Sakho to their respective clubs.
Sakho, 20, currently plays for Paris St Germain as a centre back and has been tipped as the future of French football, along with Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin (currently on loan at Lorient).
The young defender can also play at left full back and is the youngest player to ever captain a Ligue 1 side when he took the armband against Valenciennes in 2007, aged just seventeen. Despite being only twenty years old he is a regular for PSG and has made an astonishing seventy one league appearances already, scoring two goals. He is yet to make his debut for the French national team but has been capped and captain at every youth level.
Manchester United and Arsenal could both do with a talented young centre back, though they face stiff opposition from AC Milan in the race for Sakho’s signature.
United have had their problems in defence over the last year. Rio Ferdinand has been injured. A lot. And Jonny Evans has lost the form that made him look a world beater when he broke into the first team.
Arsenal has let Gallas, Campbell and Silvestre leave over the summer. Though they have brought in Squillaci and Koscielny.
While Arsenal doesn’t particularly need Sakho I’m sure they’d love to have him. Manchester United is looking pretty ropey at the back these days with Ferdinand injured and Evans struggling. While the Glazers might not be keen on spending, Mamadou Sakho is a player that can’t afford to miss out on.
