Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to bring one of the world’s hottest footballing prospects to Old Trafford. 15 year old forward Andrigo, of Brazilian side Internacional, impressed during a recent youth tournament in Manchester. Unfortunately for United, however, the wonderkid has also caught the interest of Barcelona, and there’s a notable tendency for Brazilian players to favour Spain: United lost out to Barcelona when attempting to sign Ronaldinho in 2003.
Andrigo is the most promising player of his age group at Internacional, who have an impressive academy: they’ve brought through players such as Dunga, Alexandre Pato, and Spurs’ new signing Sandro Ranieri.
Ferguson will be hoping that the influx of Brazilian players at Old Trafford since they missed out on Ronaldinho will persuade Andrigo to head to Manchester rather than Catalonia. Kleberson and Rodrigo Possebon, admittedly, proved to be disappointing signings, but the relative success of Anderson and the da Silva twins might just sell the idea to Andrigo. If United regain the services of Carlos Queiroz, as is rumoured, it may work heavily in their favour. Queiroz was credited as providing a link to many Portuguese-speaking players, and influenced the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson and Bebe.
Although, with Tottenham’s relationship with Internacional, that saw the transfer of Sandro between the two clubs, Spurs may decide to get involved. After all, ‘Arry doesn’t need to declare interest to be interested. Just look at the van der Vaart deal.
