It’s nearly closing time in the Football Transfer Tavern but not before Simon Mulock from Mirror Football brings news that Sir Alex Ferguson has declared that contract rebel Nani still has a future at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese winger, who is currently out with a hamstring injury, is reportedly a January transfer window target for Tottenham and Arsenal after he refused to agree a new deal with the Premier League leaders.
The 26-year-old who has won 62 caps for his country still has 18 months left on his current contract but it was thought that Ferguson may be ready to let the winger depart after he struggled to gain first team football this season.
However Ferguson yesterday dismissed this, saying: “Nani’s contract isn’t up until the end of next season – and we need him.
“He offers something different from the other players we have. He’s got an incredible talent, but, unfortunately, he’s been injured.
“We have sent Nani over to Dubai for a break in the hope that it will help him with his recovery.
“I don’t think we will have him back until the middle of January. He’s never had a hamstring injury before and this is a bad one.
“But Nani has got a future here. Why would I want to let him go?”
