Filip Djuricic – Is He Worth All The Hype?

Back in January of 2009, Filip Djuricic went on trial at Manchester United and looked set to sign until his work permit application reportedly fell through. Although United never confirmed the reason for not signing the player, it’s thought that a work permit could not be obtained for Djuricic. Now, almost four years on, Liverpool could be in line to take advantage of Man Utd’s missed opportunity and sign the player.

After Djuricic did not sign for United, he instead moved to Dutch side Heerenveen in 2010 and has been a major player for the club ever since. Although Djuricic has been playing regular top flight football for a few years now, the Serbian is still only 20 years old and has plenty more time to develop as a player. His age and the fact he has been playing high-quality professional football for some time makes him a much more attractive buy for any club.

It’s no surprise that Djuricic is now starting to attract the attention of some other clubs and it’s also no surprise Liverpool have been linked with the player as Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to improve on the attacking quality of his side in the January transfer window. Djuricic plays in an attacking midfield role and is comfortable both scoring and creating goals (two aspects of the game Liverpool are desperately lacking).

If Djuricic could be obtained for a relatively small fee then there would be much less risk involved and could be an exciting signing for any Premier League club. Whether Liverpool will go for the youngster or Man United may have another go at signing him, I am not so sure. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Filip Djuricic playing for another Premiership side in the near future.
