The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a huge turnaround next season, with supporters finally getting their wish to see the back of Arsene Wenger.
Whoever comes in to replace the Frenchman will have a huge job on their hands. They need to improve every area of the first team, and that’s not going to be an easy feat.
One area that is arguably one of the strongest facets of the team is the attack. With Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang leading the line for the Gunners, there is no shortage of options.
However, what there is is a shortage of is variety. Both Lacazette and Aubameyang are players that rely on pace and technique, and the Gunners are lacking more of a route-one style player. They sold Olivier Giroud in January, and though he was replaced, he wasn’t replaced by a player that possesses similar characteristics.
This summer, then, bringing in more of a physical presence makes sense, and one player that could be perfect for that role is Edin Dzeko.
Dzeko has enjoyed a bit of a resurgence at Roma over the last few years, having been lethal for the Italian outfit. He’s bagged 16 league goals this season, and he’s already proven in the Premier League with Man City, and so a move for the Bosnian would come with little risk.
At 32-years-old, he’s hardly a long-term solution, but he’s still scoring goals, and if the Gunners bring him in as more of a rotational option and control his fitness, he could remain at the club for a few years yet.
Arsenal need to have more options than they currently have, and whilst both Aubameyang and Lacazette are great players, Dzeko would offer something completely different.
