Firepower: The 1 player that could make Chelsea’s attack almost unstoppable

For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, major changes need to come to Stamford Bridge this summer. Despite a late resurgence from the Blues, it’s pretty clear that it’s been far from a good season.

A team of the Blues’ calibre shouldn’t be chasing a top-four finish at this stage of the season, yet here we are. Antonio Conte, or whoever is in charge needs to ensure that next season is better for the Blues, and so a few major team improvements will be needed this summer.

One part of the team that certainly needs a bit of attention is the attack. Despite the vast quantity of quality on display at Stamford Bridge, in the form of the likes of Willian, Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata, the Blues are still struggling in that regard.

This summer, then, Chelsea would be wise to bring in an attacker to take their team to the next level. They need a lethal goalscorer, and one player that could be a good fit is Mauro Icardi.

Icardi has been a star over in Italy over the last few years, and he’s really grown, in particular, this season. He is Inter Milan’s captain, and that says a lot about his character and quality. There is a real shortage of leaders at Stamford Bridge at present, and so Icardi’s arrival would help to calm those concerns immediately.

On the pitch, he’s a potent attacker with a real eye for a goal. This season alone he has bagged a stunning 28 league goals – a total that would put him amongst the best in England.

A move for Icardi would also make huge sense for Chelsea with an eye towards the future. He’s just 25-years-old, and so there is not only just scope for further improvement, but there is also the notion that he could be a long-term option for Chelsea.

A move for Icardi makes perfect sense, and alongside both Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata, Chelsea’s attack could be unstoppable next season with him in the team.
