The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been very impressed by the form of Roberto Firmino this season. The Brazilian has been one of their best players, and he’s stood out amongst two of Europe’s best in Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
However, despite his popularity and his fine form, it’s clear that Liverpool need additional quality in his role. The Reds have spent big over the last year or so, and another big money acquisition could help take their attack to the next level.
Clearly, Firmino is the sort of player that serves as more of a link-up option – typically scoring less goals than other top forwards, and instead placing more focus on passing and creating chances.
When looking for an alternative, then, the Reds should seek a pure goalscorer. In that vein, they’d struggle to do better than Serie A ace Ciro Immobile.
He’s been one of the most lethal forwards in Europe this season, having bagged 29 goals in just 32 league games so far this season.
At 32-years-old, he wouldn’t be a long-term option for Liverpool, but he certainly doesn’t seem to be slowing down at the moment, and so he’d be able to do a job in the Premier League.
He’s got years of experience behind him, too, and that’s something that Liverpool do lack at present.
You could argue that a two-man strike force of Ciro Immobile and Roberto Firmino would be amongst Europe’s best, and their goalscoring record certainly reflects that.
