The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are reacting to the news that Ross Barkley looks set to become a Chelsea player by the end of the week.
It has been no secret in English football that Chelsea have been admirers of Barkely since the summer of 2017, and it looks like their interest may finally lead to a permanent transfer within the next 48 hours. According to reports in The Sun, Barkley is in London today to complete a medical ahead of a proposed £15 million move.
The likes of Bakayoko and Drinkwater have failed to impress the Chelsea supporters in central-midfield since signing in the summer, but they may have to adopt even greater patience with Barkley, considering he is yet to play a single minute of football this season due to a troublesome hamstring injury.
The news that Barkley is set to join Chelsea has sparked an extremely mixed reaction from supporters on social media since the story broke earlier today.
A handful of the Chelsea supporters have understandably criticised the move due to concerns over his failure to live up to his potential so far, and also due to his recent absence with injury.
However, there are plenty of fans clad in Chelsea blue who are delighted to see their club make such swift progress during the January window, and they are looking forward to seeing their new man in action as soon as possible.
Here’s how the Blues faithful reacted to the Barkley news on Twitter…
It’s a bargain & at present for me he could easily take Bakayoko’s spot in the team in the 3-5-2. Can actually pass & score, something we miss from CM.Especially Bakayoko.

100% agree with this. He would thrive in that role

Ross Barkley to finally sign for Chelsea. A good option, with undoubted ability in a number of positions (Chelsea like versatility). Cheap too, owing to his contract being up in the summer (Chealsea really like cheapness). But that injury record will raise questions.

This guy is way better than Bakayoko

£15m for Ross Barkley. Absolute bargain. At the very least, Chelsea acquire an asset they can resell for a respectable profit.

It sounds like there is only a medical for Barkley to complete today before he will become a Chelsea player. He’s fit now so that shouldn’t be an issue. £15m is a bargain in the current market #cfc

Honestly, I think Ross Barkley is a very good footballer but he is also very inconsistent which is why many of us don’t want him to join Chelsea.
However, he’s a real attacking threat, that can change the game and actually shoot from far which is what we lack.
£15m? Why not?
