First-team Man United ace eyeing surprise exit this summer

RomeroManchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are gearing themselves up for another lengthy saga, after their round of midweek drinks was interrupted by reports of a player eyeing a surprise exit from Old Trafford.

The Sun states Sergio Romero, who only arrived last summer, is keen to leave Manchester United at the end of the season due to a frustrating lack of first-team opportunities.

Argentina’s World Cup finalist stopper arrived at a time when David De Gea’s future was surrounded with speculation and as that continued, Romero started the season as the club’s starting goalkeeper- keeping four clean sheets in six matches.

However, after De Gea’s proposed move to Real Madrid fell through and the Spaniard settled back into the United first-team, 29-year-old Romero has found opportunities extremely difficult to come by- and as such is considering a summer exit.

That situation could still change, particularly if De Gea secures an exit this summer, but it will take some persuading from Louis Van Gaal or whoever succeeds him.

Our landlord feels Romero is far too good a goalkeeper to be stuck on the bench and has backed the keeper to seek regular first-team action.

United fans, would Romero be a good first choice if De Gea was to leave? Let us know in the comments below!
