We are getting slightly bored here at the Football Transfer Tavern hearing the same old stories ever day and as one punter points out, one of the clubs we seem to forever be talking about is Tottenham Hotspur who not only have the Gareth Bale saga to contend with but the Lilywhites continue to be linked with Brazilian international Leandro Damiao who has been a top target for some time.
Andre Villas-Boas has long been a fan of the player and has made failed bid after failed bid. The Portuguese tactician wanted to land the Internacional striker in his Chelsea days and with the player rejecting the advances of the North London club in January, it isn’t certain that the move will come off in the summer either.
Not only do we think the multiple failed bids are a clue that Spurs may well miss out on the forward but Damiao’s claims that a move to Serie A would be his preferred destination also serve as a little bit of a heads up. It is clear that Spurs are facing a summer of slight uncertainty, not only due to the future of Gareth Bale but also in their hunt for a forward with it becoming increasingly clear that Emmanuel Adebayor is about to be cast out by the club. Should this happen and indeed if Champions League qualification is achieved, the club will need a world class forward and here are our five alternatives to most wanted man Damiao.
