According to reports in the Daily Mail Real Madrid’s ambitious move for City new boy Sergio Aguero is far from over.
Sportsmail revealed last month that Real president Florentino Perez is desperate to prise the City striker back the Spain after missing out on the former Athletico Madrid star last year.
It was reported that Madrid were preparing to raise funds for an audacious move for the City striker by selling Gonzalo Higuain to Chelsea and was willing to part with whatever money it took to convince City to sell.
Today it was revealed that Los Blancos may have changed their strategy by simply offering Higuain plus £5m for the Argentine ace.
Madrid newspaper Marca claimed the Madrid giants have ‘directly and indirectly’ let it be known that the 23-year-old would be welcomed with open arms to ‘a city that loves him and his family’.
Aguero has reiterated on numerous occasions his delight at joining City but Real believe he desired a move to the La Liga giants last summer, but Real was distracted trying to hammer out a deal for Brazilian sensation Neymar.
Despite the wooing from the Real president it is understood he only values Aguero at the same level which Man City paid. Marca reports this means Real would be willing to pay £37.5m or offer Higuain + £5m for the City striker.
Aguero has claimed nothing but praise since his arrival in the Premier League due to a string of fantastic performances. The Argentine has scored 21 goals in 37 appearances so far this season with many more expected.
Higuain has also performed well this season for Real Madrid despite falling behind Karim Benzema in Jose Mourinho’s plans. The former River Plate striker has scored 17 goals in 36 appearances and is considered one of the finest finishers in the modern game.
Manchester City have expressed an interest in Higuain but would rather use City bad boy Carlos Tevez as bargaining chip in any deal. City are far but alone in their interest of the 24-year-old Real ace with Chelsea, Inter and PSG also expressing an interest.
One thing is for sure, this transfer merry go round involving three of Argentina’s finest strikers is sure to ripple further than Madrid and Manchester.
