Newcastle United have had an abysmal Premier League campaign so far this season so far, having yet to win a game in the competition.
Things appear to be running far from smoothly at St James Park, with talks about a takeover and constant speculation about the future of certain figures at the club.
The Magpies have also struggled with a number of injuries this season and one player’s absence has arguably been felt more than most.
Florian Lejeune picked up a serious knee injury during a training session that required surgery and has therefore missed every game so far.
“I’m working hard on this,” he said.
“I have no date to go and train with the rest of the team. I keep my cards close to my chest, because one day I’m fine by the next I’m not.
“But it shouldn’t be too long before I’m back with the squad.”
Newcastle fans will be delighted to hear that Lejeune expects to be edging closer to a return and could be back out on the pitch in the near future.
The French defender was a key member of the defence last season alongside Jamaal Lascelles and he has clearly been missed by Rafa Benitez’s side so far.
However, as he suggested, it does appear that he is still struggling at times with the injury, and it remains to be seen if whether his return could come potentially too late for Newcastle to save their season.
