Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have returned from Ukraine and are still devastated following the Champions League final but finally have some news to cheer them up.
The Reds announced their first summer signing just days after their defeat to Real Madrid with Monaco lynchpin Fabinho penning a five-year-deal. Liverpool beat both Arsenal and Manchester United to his signature, which will cost £40m. With Emre Can set to move to Juventus, Liverpool now have the perfect replacement.
Naby Keita will also finally complete his deal from RB Leipzig in the summer, and their summer transfer business needs to continue at the same pace. Their next priority should be finalising a deal for Lyon forward – Nabil Fekir. The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Merseyside.
Valued at £45m by Transfermarkt, he would surely cost Liverpool upwards of that fee. He enjoyed a stellar season, netting 23 goals and notching eight assists in all competitions. Able to play as the striker, on the wing or as a number 10, he would be the ideal replacement for Philippe Coutinho. Despite never playing there before, Jurgen Klopp may choose to use Fekir in central midfield alongside Keita.
A midfield trio of Fekir, Keita and Fabinho behind Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino is a scary proposition for their Premier League rivals. Indeed, it’d certainly lead to perhaps their best title challenge in years, one built on far more solid foundations than the one in 2014.
