The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are all having a good laugh at the situation that Aston Villa have found themselves in. It’s understood that Dr Tony Xia is prepared to sell the club altogether as his gamble to pile money into the club to achieve promotion has backfired and with the club struggling to comply with FFP obligations, relegation could be a real possibility.
Whilst things aren’t looking so good in Birmingham, up on Tyneside things are much rosier. The two clubs had a lot in common two years ago. Both clubs had gone down and they were both deemed as clubs that were ‘too big’ for Championship with their respective histories, however, there’s no love lost for our local Magpies as Villa continue to struggle whilst Newcastle are flying under Rafa Benitez off the back of a 10th placed Premier League finish.
The hate from the Newcastle fans propping our bar up comes after the Villains made a number banners mocking the Geordies when they drew 0-0 at Villa Park at the back end of the 2015/16 season, a result that effectively relegated the St James Park faithful. Two years on though, and it’s the Newcastle fans who are laughing as Aston Villa are in real danger of going into administration and having to start next season with the -12 point penalty that comes with it.
You can read our jubilant Magpies’ verdict on the Villains’ dire situation here:
