Marseille’s midfielder Lucho Gonzalez was linked to a move to Arsenal according to press reports in Italy.
The Argentine international could yet fill the void in the centre of midfield that has been left following the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
It is understood the 30-year-old was high on Wenger’s list of replacements and could be signed on a season loan deal.
It certainly goes against Wenger’s normal recruitment policy as he tends to nurture and develop young talent as opposed to buying players coming towards the end of their careers.
However after Sunday’s drubbing to Manchester United drastic measures are clearly required. And Arsenal fans will be hoping injecting some new blood into this line up will revitalize the team.
The player remarked yesterday,
“An agreement was not reached because they wanted a younger player whom they could later sell and they went after that kind of player.”
