Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t happy after ending the season without a trophy following their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
A penalty from Eden Hazard was enough to secure the famous old trophy at Wembley meaning Jose Mourinho tasted defeat for the first time in an English cup final. The Red Devils ended the Premier League season in second, 19 points behind rivals Manchester City who cruised to the title. They were also knocked out of the Champions League by Sevilla.
The summer transfer window is a pivotal period for Mourinho who looks to strengthen his squad and close the gap to the Citizens. Plenty of names are set to depart Old Trafford including Luke Shaw and Maraoune Fellaini. High on Mourinho’s shortlist should be a new centre-back.
United are believed to be interested in Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld. Instead, they should make an audacious bid for Inter Milan defender – Milan Skriniar. The 23-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Serie A, making 40 appearances for the Italian side, playing every minute of Serie A football. His market value has skyrocketed to £36m, according to Transfermarkt, as a result of his exceptional performances.
His defensive stats make for impressive reading. The Slovakian defender has averaged 2.3 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 4.5 clearances per game this season according to WhoScored. As well as his impressive defensive statistics, he has retained a 92% passing accuracy which is remarkable for a defender.
With Skriniar at the back, Inter kept 17 clean sheets. United must move quickly to secure one of the world’s hottest prospects.
