Forget Anderson: West Ham must avoid bidding war and make ambitious move for Madrid man

West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait to see who the club will sign now the summer transfer window is officially open.

Manuel Pellegrini has wasted no time in revamping the West Ham squad since taking over from David Moyes as manager. Fulham defender, Ryan Fredericks, became the Chilean’s first signing after impressing during the Cottagers’ successful promotion bid. Now, the 64-year-old surely wants a new winger to light up the London Stadium.

Reports have suggested West Ham are in advanced negotiations for Lazio winger – Felipe Anderson. However, the Italian side are refusing to lower their £35m valuation due to a 20% sell-on fee that will be owed to Anderson’s former club – Santos. Their refusal to sell could force West Ham to assess their options.

One man they should be targeting is Athletic Bilbao superstar – Inaki Williams. Valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, the Spaniard has been linked with Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool in the past after bursting onto the scene after graduating from the Bilbao academy. He was a key player for Eduardo Berizzo last season, scoring ten goals and notching eight assists in all competitions.

Williams is primarily a right winger but can also be played on the left or as the central striker. Blessed with frightening pace, the 24-year-old is also immensely strong, making him a nightmare for defenders to deal with. If the youngster wants to break into the Spanish national side, he needs to make the step up in competition.

The time is right to move to the Premier League, Williams could become world-class under Pellegrini’s guidance.
