The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that N’Golo Kante will get a new midfield partner this summer. Tiemoue Bakayoko has done little to prove his worth in England, whilst the likes of Danny Drinkwater and Cesc Fabregas both look a shadow of their former selves.
Kante, meanwhile, has been sensational, and so he does deserve someone just as good next to him.
However, our landlord isn’t sure that Chelsea need to invest heavily in this regard. Instead, he thinks the best solution is already at the club – in the form of David Luiz.
After all, Luiz doesn’t look likely to play in defence next season. The Blues have a wealth of options at the back, and more could yet join, with the likes of Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta unlikely to lose their spaces for the foreseeable future. Moving his position around, then, should be an obvious choice.
He’s got all the tools to be a perfect midfielder, too. He’s a fantastic tackler, and his role in this team would be to help break up play and move it forward. He’d be an expert at that owing to all the time he’s spent at the back.
He’s also an expert passer, and given that N’Golo Kante’s game primarily focuses on defending, the Brazilian could be allowed to move forward – as he often has liked to – and create magic in the attack.
The Brazilian has played there in the past for Chelsea in big games, but recently the Blues have been hesitant to use him in that way. Next season, that must change, as he can have a huge impact.
