Forget Barkley: This £16.2m rated midfielder would thrive under Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern were disappointed to miss out on the signing of Ross Barkley last week.

According to the Evening Standard, the Lilywhites chose to pass on the Englishman in search of better targets, with Mauricio Pochettino clearly having other names in mind. With that being said, Mauricio Pochettino should really be working in conjunction with Daniel Levy to identify some alternative transfer targets this month.

One name who should be in contention of making the shortlist is West Ham star Manuel Lanzini (valued at £16 million by Transfermarkt).

Lanzini, who was recently capped by Argentina for the very first time, is a player who could comfortably make the step up from West Ham to a top-four club, and like Ross Barkley, his attacking pedigree speaks for itself. Offensively, Tottenham have lacked flair this season, and Lanzini would bring it in droves.

Tottenham know all too well about the little Argentine’s creative abilities, as he has provided 3 assists in his 2 appearances against The Lilywhites this season.

The former River Plate prospect has shown flashes of pure brilliance during his career in Claret and Blue, but he is lacking consistency in his performances at the moment.

If Lanzini wants to add consistency to his game and realise his full potential, then he would be wise to consider a move to player under Pochettino at Spurs.

Tottenham’s chances of finishing the top-four would be boosted by Lanzini’s arrival, and the player himself would benefit immeasurably from playing at a top club, so Pochettino should quickly forget about Barkley and make a move for the Hammers star this month.
