Forget Batshuayi: 86% of Chelsea fans want Conte to land this lethal forward in January

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Antonio Conte to be given some funds in January. The Italian proved last season what he can do with a few major acquisitions, and it’s fair to say that most Blues are dreaming of another Premier League title win.

Indeed, January will be an interesting month for Chelsea. They’re far away from Man City in top spot in the English top flight, and whilst catching them is an unlikely possibility, a major signing or two will be needed to give Chelsea even the slightest chance.

It seems likely that Chelsea will invest this month, but who they could sign is a different topic entirely. The Blues need more options in a number of positions, but one area that is repeatedly criticised in the Transfer Tavern is the strikeforce. Alvaro Morata has done well this year, but Conte’s only other option – Michy Batshuayi – has really struggled. More depth in the attack, then, would make sense.

There are a few options that Chelsea could move for, but it appears as though the Chelsea faithful know who they want their side to sign: Dries Mertens. Our landlord recently polled fans on the striker, and a whopping 86% of Chelsea supporters voted in favour of their side landing him.

Chelsea haven’t been linked with him in recent weeks, and in truth, that’s a surprise. He has been one of Europe’s best forwards, and having already breached 30-years-old, a move abroad could be of interest to him. He bagged 28 league goals last season, and he has already scored 10 more this year. He’s clearly a top forward, and the prospect of him partnering Alvaro Morata is a mouthwatering one.

It remains to be seen who Chelsea will sign in January, and a new striker coming in is far from a foregone conclusion, but the Chelsea fans have clearly had their say.
