The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern want to see another forward move to Stamford Bridge this summer…
With Michy Batshuayi struggling to impress domestically, Chelsea only really have one reliable forward at present in Alvaro Morata – and he is yet to prove himself in the Premier League.
It would make sense, then, for Chelsea to sign a player that they can rely on. A move for Belotti has been mooted, but like Morata, his lack of Premier League experience does offer reason for concern. Perhaps a move for a proven Premier League star would make sense – and one of England’s best forwards in recent years has been Jamie Vardy.
The Englishman is a divisive figure for his attitude and personality, but on the field he has proven all of the critics wrong. He has been a consistent goalscorer in recent years, and the 24 goals that he bagged in the 2015/16 domestic season were crucial as Leicester City won the Premier League title.
His goalscoring is his most recognisable trait, but his qualities extend far beyond that. He’s also great at linking up play, whilst he is adept at making life difficult for defences whilst playing as a lone forward – likely as he would were he to move to Chelsea.
At 30-years-old, he’s an option for the present, and it’s not like he’ll be a regular in a few years time, but if Chelsea want immediate success – they would struggle to do much better than Jamie Vardy.
A move has been touted in the English press, but with no immediate bid seemingly on the horizon, Chelsea should make the step up and move for the Englishman.
