Forget Benteke: Crystal Palace need to sign this potent PL winning poacher to replace him

The Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Roy Hodgson to bring a few new faces to Selhurst Park in January. Despite securing a last-gasp win against Watford on Tuesday night, the Eagles have struggled to maintain consistency so far this term, leaving our resident Selhurst Park faithful hiding behind their pint glasses.

At present, they’re still on course for a relegation battle, and so everything that Hodgson does in January will be heavily scrutinized. He needs to bring in a few big names, that’s without doubt, and one player that could be a perfect fit is Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi.

Batshuayi could be available in January given his lack of game time this season, particularly if Chelsea can source a replacement, and so it could be a move that makes financial sense. The real benefit, however, could come on the pitch.

The Belgian has been a divisive figure since moving to London, and that’s particularly been the case from the perspective of Antonio Conte. He hasn’t really trusted the forward, and whilst that may speak for something, the Belgian deserves credit for the way that he has responded. Despite the difficult circumstances, he has never given up and he’s always given 100%. That attitude could be key as Palace look to launch a successful challenge against relegation.

There is also evidence to suggest that he can feel hard done by by Antonio Conte. His goalscoring record at Chelsea is actually pretty phenomenal, having bagged a fair few goals this season. He’s scored 2 goals in the league despite starting just twice, whilst he’s bagged 2 Champions League goals despite starting just one game. Sure, he’s made a handful of appearances from the bench to little success, but it’s very hard to make an impact when you play so rarely. He’s won big games against the likes of Atletico Madrid, too, and that timing could be key this season both for Chelsea and Palace.

Christian Benteke has struggled this season, and Michy Batshuayi could be a fantastic replacement. Do you agree? Vote below and let us know!
