Everton fans down in the Transfer Tavern are buoyant over their club’s summer business.
The Toffees have so far recruited six players, including boyhood hero Wayne Rooney.
And it appears Ronald Koeman is looking for a striker to partner the Englishman up front.
However, Josh King represents another Premier League goalscorer who impressed last season.
With Palace unlikely to part with Benteke, the Toffees should instead turn their attention to the Bournemouth striker.
King, 25, netted an impressive 16 goals for Eddie Howe’s side last season.
And the Cherries may be less reluctant to sell the Norwegian after securing England’s Jermain Defoe on a three-year deal.
Koeman will have to see off competition from Tottenham, who are reportedly interested in the hitman as a replacement for the disappointing Vincent Janssen.
The Bournemouth star delivered a marginally better goals to game ratio than Benteke last season (16 in 36 against 15 in 36) and is more versatile than his Belgian counterpart.
King’s excellent dribbling ability means the striker can play anywhere across the front three and as a second striker.
Our landlord thinks this would be a fantastic alternative to Benteke for the Merseyside outfit.
