Forget Bertrand: Man United should land this £27m-rated left-back next summer

The Manchester United fans have been impressed by Ashley Young’s performances on the left-hand side of their defence so far this season, but they believe the acquisition of a natural full-back will be necessary this summer despite his positive form.

Ashley Young has adapted well to his new role within United’s squad this season and, despite being a left-winger by trade, he could be set to start at left-back for England when they get their World Cup campaign underway in June. His tenacious mentality combined with his speed and technical brilliance make him ideally suited to the role of a modern full-back, but United cannot continue to rely on the 32-year-old for too much longer.

With that to consider, United should be in the market for a new left-back this summer. According to The Sunthe Red Devils have already identified a potential target to pursue during the transfer window, namely Ryan Bertrand of Southampton.

United’s chances of signing Bertrand at a bargain price will be significantly enhanced if the Saints fail to climb out of the relegation zone in the final weeks of the season, but regardless of the price, they should abdnon their pursuit of the former Chelsea prospect and instead do everything in their power to bring Danny Rose (valued at £27 million by Transfermarkt) to Old Trafford.

Rose’s future at Tottenham Hotspur was cast into serious doubt last summer after he publicly criticised his club for their supposed lack of ambition in the transfer market, but he remains contracted to the club almost a year on. However, Mauricio Pochettino has effectively frozen him out of his first-team plans this season and entrusted Ben Davies with the left-back spot for the vast majority of fixtures.

With that in mind, it seems certain that Rose will depart Tottenham this summer in search of a new challenge and United appears to be a perfect destination for the 27-year-old. Rose has demonstrated that he possesses the level of quality that is needed to succeed at United throughout the past half-decade and, his presence would undoubtedly instigate an improvement in the Red Devils results next season.

Rose is an intelligent player who has all the qualities that are required to be an effective marauding full-back in the English top-flight. He would be a fantastic addition to the squad this summer and there’s plenty of reason to suggest he will become available for transfer this summer, so Mourinho should do everything he can to sign Rose once the season reaches its conclusion.
