The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are resigned to the fact that Danny Rose will depart the club this summer and they are beginning to discuss a handful of potential players who could replace the England international.
Danny Rose has become something of a bit-part player this season with the Lilywhites due to a combination of injury problems and Ben Davies’ impressive form at left-back. The comments Rose made regarding Tottenham’s wage structure and ambition in the transfer market last summer certainly didn’t aid his cause and it seems Mauricio Pochettino will be willing to cash in on him during the transfer window.
Recent reports emerging from the Daily Star seem to consolidation that notion as Tottenham are reportedly interested in making a bid for Southampton’s captain Ryan Bertrand this summer. Bertrand’s form this season has been below what the Saints faithful have come to expect from the 28-year-old, but his history suggests he would be decent fit for the North-London outfit.
However, Tottenham’s move into the new stadium should mark the beginning of a new era for the club characterised by ambition and success, so they should be pursuing the signature of a higher calibre full-back, namely Alex Sandro of Juventus. The Brazilian left-sided player has been in brilliant form for the Old Lady this season in their bid to clinch the Serie A title.
Sandro (valued at £45 million by Transfermarkt) is defensively sound and a dangerous outlet to utilise in the final-third, and the quality and consistency of his end-product would certainly be a blessing for Harry Kane next season. Considering his importance to Juventus, the Italian giants will certainly be reluctant to sell him during the summer, but if he expresses a genuine desire to challenge himself in English football and a fair offer arrives for his services then Tottenham would have a fantastic chance of securing a deal.
Tottenham have a huge summer ahead of them with the imminent stadium move and they need to make a huge statement of intent with their summer signings. With that in mind, Mauricio Pochettino simply must abandon his move for Bertrand and instead focus on luring Sandro to the club this summer.
