Forget Buendia: Leeds United should land Chelsea’s £1.8m-rated assist-king ASAP

The Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their club can add a creative midfielder to their ranks this summer, but recent reports suggest they are set to miss out on a key target to a Championship rival.

According to a recent report from Pinkun, Norwich City are leading Leeds United and Swansea City in the race to sign Emiliano Buendia from Getafe in a deal worth £1.5 million. Interest from the aforementioned trio is hardly surprising after the season Buendia enjoyed in La Liga2 where he scored 6 goals and provided 11 assists from 40 appearances during a loan spell with Cultural Leonesa.

Naturally, the Whites faithful lining up our bar are disappointed by reports, but there is plenty of reason to suggest that they could sign an alternative who possesses huge potential this summer, namely Mason Mount (valued at £1.8 million by Transfermarkt).

Chelsea’s 19-year-old attacking midfielder recently returned to Stamford Bridge from a hugely successful loan with Vitesse Arnhem in Holland where he collected the player of the season award. Mount showcased his goal-scoring and creative talents by scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists from 40 appearances in all-competitions, including 5 goals in the Europa League play-offs at the end of the season.

Although it’s important not to get carried away with his performances due to the standard of the Dutch Eredivisie, his promising beginning to his senior career should be duly noted and acted upon by Andrea Radrizzani this summer.

With Buendia seemingly slipping out of their grasp, it’s time for Leeds to make a bid for an alternative player with the creative ability to carve open defences in the Championship next season, and Mount more than fits the bill.

After the season Mount enjoyed on loan, it’s likely that interest for his services will be rife this summer, so the Leeds hierarchy simply cannot afford to waste any time in the coming weeks in their bid to secure a potential deal for a player who would undoubtedly inject a huge layer of quality to their attack next season.
