The goalkeeping conundrum continues to rumble on at Liverpool this season, and despite Jurgen Klopp seemingly settling on Loris Karius being his number one, many Reds fans and punters still believe the club need a new face between the sticks.
There has been strong rumours across multiple sources of late that the club will swoop for Stoke and England stopper Jack Butland this summer, but our landlord here in the Tavern thinks there could be a few better options out there.
One such player who has brought up in conversation this week is Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak, who has been at the top of his game for a number of seasons now and has developed into one of the finest shot stoppers on the planet.
While Liverpool might be tempted by Butland’s age and potential, by signing Oblak they would be getting a sure pair of hands and someone who is capable at the top level, with big game experience behind him.
Oblak is a class act, and commands his area, giving the back four reassurance that they have a fine goalkeeper behind them marshalling the defence and making the opposition centre forwards think twice when through one on one with him.
If Liverpool and Klopp are really serious about solving their goalkeeping issues, then Oblak is the sort of ‘keeper they need to be making a move for come the summer.
Liverpool fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
