The Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern would like to see an upgrade in the goalkeeping department. Julian Speroni has been a loyal servant to Crystal Palace over the years but he is coming towards the end of his career and he needs to be in more of a coaching role than a playing role. Meanwhile, Wayne Hennessey is erratic at the best of times.
Roy Hodgson has been assessing his options this month and could move for Fulham goalkeeper David Button. But he should ignore this move and bring in a star of the future.
Andre Onana is making strides in the Netherlands and he is tipped for a very bright future. The dominant 6ft 3in goalkeeper is the first choice goalkeeper at Ajax and he is continuing to impress despite his young age.
The 21-year-old was formerly in the Barcelona academy and this grounding in football education has given him the edge over other goalkeepers of a similar age in Holland. After biding his time in Ajax’s second string side Jong Ajax, Onana stepped forward to the plate as their first choice stopper and is continuing to pick up admirers.
The twice-capped Cameroon international would be a superb addition for Palace and they could finally drop Hennessey to the bench. He is ready to start in the Premier League and at such a young age, he is only going to get better with playing time.
Crystal Palace should launch a bid to snap Onana up this January because other teams will surely become alerted to his potential sooner rather than later.
