Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side impressively book their spot in the last 16 of the Champions League courtesy of a 7-0 thrashing of Spartak Moscow at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s men knew that victory in their final group match would have sealed top spot in Group E while a draw would have been enough for qualification, yet there was little doubt about the result on a great night for our resident Liverpudlians. A hat-trick from Philippe Coutinho, a brace from Sadio Mane, as well as strikes from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah secured a sensational win for the Merseyside giants, who in turn became the fourth English team to win their Champions League group this season alongside Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham.
Thus, there have been jubilant Reds fans in the Tavern in the last few hours, many of whom are eagerly anticipating the draw for the knockout stages on Monday, where Klopp’s men could meet the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus, or Bayern Munich in the next round.
In the meantime though, there has been plenty for those Liverpool fans lining up at the bar to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking Zinedine Zidane’s Real with a move for midfielder Emre Can.
The 23-year-old’s contract at Anfield expires in the summer and as of yet he has not agreed an extension, calling into question his future at the club given that, as of January 1, he can pen a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club.
And the European champions are the latest club to reportedly express an interest, yet Klopp must forget Can and focus on landing one of these TWO midfielders to replace the wantaway star…
