The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are growing concerned at Chelsea’s increasingly average-looking transfer wish list. The Blues need to bring in a new striker, that much is clear, but our resident Blues aren’t sure that the players that Antonio Conte is said to have been targeting are what he needs.
Surprise names like Peter Crouch have been linked with the Blues, whilst a deal for AS Roma Edin Dzeko is also being mooted. Both are, of course, well-known names in England, but neither are likely to fill supporters with hope and optimism.
However, one player that seemingly is a popular name amongst Chelsea fans is that of Sebastien Haller. A relatively unknown name in England, the Frenchman has been seriously impressive in the Bundesliga this term.
Standing at a towering 6ft2, Haller has bagged 8 goals so far this season – a decent record on its own – but what is particularly impressive about his form this term are the goals that have come late in games. His last three goals have all come in or after the 90th minute, proving his credentials as a late goal specialist. Given that Conte is looking for a back-up to Alvaro Morata, rather than a replacement, that is particularly intriguing. At Stamford Bridge, he would likely be tasked with making a late introduction and scoring late goals – and he’s clearly very good at that.
He also picks up, on average, 5.1 succesful aerial duels per game, likely owing to his impressive height and stature, which would give Chelsea the more direct option in the attack that Antonio Conte is craving.
A move for Haller is clearly a popular prospect amongst Chelsea fans, with a whopping 85% of recently polled Chelsea supporters voting in favour of a potential move.
Unfortunately for them, Chelsea are yet to be linked with such a transfer – but with over a week until the transfer window slams shut, there is still time. He might not be on their radar, but if he keeps impressing, Conte will surely find it impossible to miss him.
